It is with great pleasure we are now ready to welcome the first mural of the year besides an urban abstract group show with twelve leading artists within modern abstraction.
Among others you’ll be able to explore the universe of 9 new international artists picked from the top shelf with the wish to give a taste of what’s happening right now at the international scene for modern abstraction and ”Graffuturism”.
Originally the term “Graffuturism” was created by the American artist and art commentator Poesia, who edits and publishes an online blog under the same name; Graffuturism.com today.
With a background as a well-respected graffiti artist with a twenty-year history, he felt there was something missing to depict the gap between graffiti and urban art which led to the term “Graffuturism”.
The term hereby embraces the latest currents within urban art/graffiti and at times also futurism, bridging the gap between these concepts and the energy in between.

MURAL

During the opening you’ll also be able to follow Italian Soda working on a new mural across the gallery.
The international recognized artist will be visiting Aalborg for five days besides taking part at the group show.

Alan De Cecco aka SODA was born in Palmanova in 1977 and studied Architecture and Design in Italy.
SODA is a graffiti artist who also works in other artistic mediums like painting, graphics and sound. The artist is known for his exceptional abstract graffiti pieces that stimulate people’s point of view by focusing their attention at the distance. His minimalist artworks are reminiscent of pieces made by the best Kinetic and Op art masters since SODA uses black and white shapes and an exceptional shadowing technique to create an illusion of a third dimension on the surface.

Since 1993 the artist has been embellishing the walls around the world with a variety of dynamic and seemingly weightless artworks. His pieces are composed of floating geometrical fragments that are either merging and colliding or moving away from each other much like pieces of an object shattered in an explosion. The spray paint artworks create an illusion of a third dimension achieved with a careful examination of the way sunlight hits a certain area followed by the careful shadowing of the elements with black paint and low pressure technique.
