It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to this year’s biggest exhibition, Inside Out, featuring 10 of Denmark’s leading contemporary artists. For Inside Out, each of the artists has addressed the relationship between what we express on the outside, compared with how we feel on the inside.

This collection of works examines the personal conflict that arises when we desire full control and yet live in an environment that is ever further removed from our basic needs and natures. In this type of environment, we are not in complete understanding of the context we live in and the holistic element between people, nature, and the basic human needs provided by nature. When this happens, contrasts arise and it can be hard to resolve inner conflict. Outwardly, we seem to be in full control, yet our inner-self is plagued with paradoxical divisions. The need to return to nature, as a vital human need is necessary but often neglected and so alienation and detachment take hold.

Many of the artists in this exhibition are established and have been part of important museum exhibitions and events in Denmark and abroad. Experience them here, one-on-one, and hear them tell about their work and the role of societal context in their paintings.
