As something completely different, this month, the assistant of the gallery has been given the opportunity to curate a show of her own, picking out artists in a lowbrow frame of mind resulting in the show 'Dream Bags and Jaguar Shoes'.
The assistant says the following about the show:
It is a great privilege and a dream come true to curate a show of my own.
Praising the many outstanding female artists within pop surrealism, I also wanted to make a big shout-out to these.
Contemporary pop surrealism / lowbrow allows you to escape into a warped reality. With the 15 female artists participating in the show, this is what I want to pass on. Still to this day, female artists are overlooked and often underrepresented in museums as well as galleries, and with this show, I hope to relish the triumphs of these female artists who are all very versatile in their expressions, working with everything from felt, ceramics, drawings to paintings.

The title of the show, ‘Dream Bags and Jaguar Shoes’, is a flashback to my youth.
In the late 1990s, I lived in London for 8 years, and one night in a club, I met Martyn who worked in a well-established fine arts gallery. He told me about all the cool art places to check out in London.
Among others, he wanted to present me to the unique bar close to Shoreditch called 'Dream Bags and Jaguar shoes', which used to be a bag and shoe wholesaler.
The bar was then turned into a blank canvas for exhibitions, changing theme every month and making completely new installations. Everything from wall paper and furniture to the music and even the drinks had to relate to the monthly theme.
This place made a huge impact on me, and I still often think back to the experiences this place gave me of really feeling the magic of underground art. This is why I wish to call the show at KIRK Gallery 'Dream Bags and Jaguar Shoes´.

Art has always been a big part in my life. I've always been connected to it in one way or another. Music, comics and paintings – I have always needed this to be part of my life to feel content and happy, and this show, with these 15 women, is an explosion of happiness and quirkiness.
Some of the artists at the show I've been a fan of for many years, and some are new discoveries for me. Common for them all is their unique expression.
It's an extravagant combination of their voices, techniques, colour choices, compositions, subject matter, media. From filt animals, clay sculptures, drawings to paintings. Creating something without words is something that speaks to a lot of people. Art is truly a language of its own.

Welcome to a unique show with 15 new artists.
