As many other galleries around the world KIRK Gallery has been shut down only open by appointment for the last one and a half month due to Covid-19.
Since things are getting much better in Denmark and the authorities have decided to start opening up again, so will the gallery with a new group show showcasing 12 leading urban artists.
Many of these have already murals with the gallery as part of the mural project ‘Out in the Open’, and the plan was to open the 6th editon of the project at the same time as the upcoming show.
Due to the current travel restrictions quite a few of these has been postponed though, but will be going on later in the summer.
To start out with you’ll then be able to explore the work of many of the muralists to come at the upcoming show ‘Inside Out’ instead and get a better idea about how their work unfolds on canvas.
At the upcoming show the gallery has gathered 12 highly recognized urban artists who are all connected to the gallery and the ‘Out in the Open’ mural project.
The idea has been for the stories started in the street of Aalborg watching the murals, to continue inside the gallery developing even further on canvas.
The show ‘Inside Out’ will then be the story of the murals from the ‘outside’ continuing on the ‘inside’ of the gallery on panel and canvas.
This is where it all started for a lot of the artists being trained from the art academies, where quite a few of the artists are classically trained and the viewer at the show will find works bridging the gap between fine- and urban art as their career of the artists moved on into the streets.
Among others French Seth, who made two murals at ‘Out in the Open 2019’, will be showcasing new works, one of them inspired by his murals in Aalborg.
At the show you’ll also be able to enjoy new works from Fintan Magee, Oliver Vernon, Telmo Miel and Herakut who all made murals at ‘Out in the Open’.
NEW MURALS AND ARTISTS AT THE GALLERY
At the upcoming show you’ll also find a number of new artists who will be making murals at ‘Out in the Open 2020’ later in the year such as Case Maclaim, Martin Whatson, Augustine Kofie and more.
While Peeta works within modern abstraction, the two other artists challenge us in the streets and on the canvas exploring the relationship between vulnerability and strength.
Case Maclaim in a very photo realistic touch while Martin Whatson is known for balancing street art with delicate stencils.
