It is with great pleasure we are now ready to welcome you to a new exceptional solo show from Johan Barrios.
As a general character, Barrios has a unique ability to express powerful human emotions in a brushstroke, a color palette and a composition, with a fineness and sensitivity that can be difficult to describe. A tenderness that hits so strongly it can be hard to stay on your feet in meeting them.
Besides the incredible technique in his work and his unique ability to make us feel when studying his mysterious absorbing paintings and drawings, he has been touted as one of the most significant young visual artists of today.
About the show Johan Barrios tells the following:
“My work aims to create physical and spatial encounters where calm, silence, and balance serve as a refuge in moments of stillness. These interactions emerge from dreamlike and surreal states, the characters embody an essential interdependence with one another or with familiar objects. This dynamic foster a persistent sense of belonging within a specific space.
The title of the show “Absorption “refers to the deep connection and interplay between the figures and their environments, where individuals become immersed in their surroundings, transforming mundane objects into extensions of themselves. This interaction often highlights the emotion, intimacy, and tension present in my work.”
Johan Barrios (b.1984) is a Colombian-born artist living and working in Houston, Texas.
His career started at the Academy of Fine Arts in Medellin, Colombia and his success later on led him to the United States, where he is based today.
