JORAM ROUKES (NL) | ‘Final Cut’

After several years in Los Angeles, Joram Roukes now lives and works in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
His impressive wall and oil paintings are reflections on everyday life, observed, filtered, and assembled in a collage-like manner.

The distinct quality that transforms Joram's work from merely "eye-catching" to "captivating" is best described by the undefinable tension present in his detailed compositions. His energetic murals and canvases possess an incredible vibrancy, drawing viewers into his surreal world with a compelling, dynamic allure that keeps them engaged and fascinated.

"When painting a person's face, you are primarily creating a portrait of an individual who exists.
What I aim to do in my works, instead, is to keep them anonymous. It’s not about a specific individual but rather about the generation as a whole and the society they live in.
When painting animal heads, it brings forth many associations with human behavior. Animals can, for example, be dirty or cunning.
They have a range of behavioral characteristics, and together with the other imaginary elements in the work, I believe it’s a stronger way to complement the story rather than using human faces."
