Cristian Gabriel Lãpusan (b. 1976, Romania) lives and works in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Cristian’s artistic approach problematizes a world in which things unfold in the logic of contrasting actions and the moving body unlocks physical energies that words cannot reveal. In the context in which emotions are transpiring and subversively, allusively, sometimes imperatively materialize contemporary anxieties, the individual seeks to recognize and redefine its own corporeality. The body regeneratively maps its traumas or vulnerabilities and has the capacity to rebuild its deep connections.
Cristian therefore tries to guide the viewer to analyse and debate an extremely current, sensitive, and challenging theme through its vulnerability and at the same time its intrinsic reflexive character - the fragile and inseparable relationship between human and its nature.
These are the parameters in which a dialogue between the two worlds/entities is initiated, using the spring of lighting in premeditated or spontaneously configured scenography, realistic representations that have as “actors”, human figures, expressions from proximity, (friends/family). Also there are depicted actions that speak of them, immediate concerns, stories in which the present time foreshadows a future time and recalls a past time.
Beside his artistic work Cristian is also active as a PhD Lecturer at Department of Painting at UAD Cluj-Napoca.
