BEZT & JOSHUA SMITH

Bezt's work is already loved by many citizens in Aalborg because of his large mural 'Meeting her Parents', where a boy standing with a bouquet of flowers on his back, which already has been half-eaten by a rat, nervously waiting in front of the door of the home of his parents-in-law.
Like on the mural the themes in the work of Bezt, are often full of contrasts. Beauty versus ugliness, order versus disorder ..
At the same time Bezt work bridges the gap between fine- and urban art, visually, technically and concept wise, often with conflicting issues on his mind.
Bezt’s solo works are inseparable from his activity within a duo called Etam Cru, which he formed with the artist Sainer, Bezt soon became a successful commercial artist and freelance designer.
The artist handles several media at once, but primarily he’s an illustrator, muralist, and painter. The employment of floral motifs, animals and woman portraits is interwoven with metaphors and symbols often borrowed from local folklore. Although his works strive for realism, they are still maintained in a characteristic style sourced from graffiti.
Regardless of the media, Bezt invests tremendous efforts in creating strong narratives which should deliver the certain message. Fantastical, perhaps mythical or even dreamy, his works can certainly be perceived as images from another world.
Bezt was born in Turek in 1987, Poland, and graduated of Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz.

JOSHUA SMITH

Joshua Smith is a miniaturist and former stencil artist based in Norwood, South Australia.
As a self taught miniaturist. His miniature works primarily focus on the often overlooked aspects of the urban environment such as grime, rust, decay to discarded cigarettes and graffiti perfectly recreated in 1:20 scale miniatures.
His sculptures are all miniatures of urban houses and scenes from famous big cities like Sidney, Los Angeles or Hong Kong that he has become enthralled with. Everything down to the graffiti on the walls, the lights within the house, and the newspapers or dirt found on the streets is recreated in immense detail, but at a fraction of the size.
The attention to detail and the patience he needs to reconstruct his urban scenery make Joshua Smith both a storyteller and an archeologist of the present time. Working at a small scale invites viewers into a personal and intimate relationship with the piece, while at the same time keeping him at a distance, unable to fully “enter” the work.
