Rikke Bjørn (born 1973) is a Danish visual artist who lives and works in Copenhagen. She made her debut at the Artists' Summer Exhibition (KS19) in Tistrup in 2019 and has since exhibited at galleries and exhibition venues at home and abroad. Rikke Bjørn works with Concrete Art.
In 2019, Rikke Bjørn received an honorary award at the censored gallery exhibition BIG awards at the Cage Gallery in Barcelona.
About the works, by Rikke Bjørn, 2018:
I work with colors and geometric compositions, where I examine the color, shape and surface as well as the hierarchy between the different elements. I paint because I can't help it - the work stimulates my need to create order and structure. The hard edges, together with the colors, create a visual calm, while also challenging the eye. In my choice of color, I experiment with how the perception of a color changes in relation to the surroundings.
I construct my compositions intuitively as the process progresses and am deeply fascinated by how the colors interact with each other. I rarely work with sketches, which makes the process free and open. I work through some fixed compositions directly on the canvas, which subsequently form the starting point for an investigation of how much I can manipulate them. Through working with specific themes, I compose new works and compositions.
